Fall Workshop in Morocco

Welcome to KCPhoto Workshops!

Join us in Marrakech

Sunday, September 25 - Saturday, October 1, 2011

The Workshop is fully booked.

Please check back next year.

"...a unique and wonderful week, guided by a generous and caring teacher."

"The reviews were some of the most useful and important aspects of the week."

"I learned not only from my own [growth] but from the growth of the other students."

These testimonials are from students who took my workshops in France in 2009 and 2010. This will be our first workshop in Morocco and we expect it will be as rewarding and stimulating as the others!

Set against the stunning snow-capped Atlas Mountains, Marrakech will delight your senses and stimulate your creative vision. A magical place of old and new, labyrinthine alleyways and golden vistas, pulsating market square and cool tiled courtyards, the sights, scents and sounds of this crossroads city will draw you in and heighten your sense of adventure.

The workshop is designed to get you thinking about photography in a different way -- to make pictures rather than take them. While you hone your technical skills, you will learn how to look and see in a new way, as well as translate what you see to express your personal vision.

Looking, seeing, connecting. Capturing a sense of place. Telling a story. We will cover it all, because KCPhoto Workshops are my opportunity to share with you my passion for photography and some of what I have learned during a long and successful carer behind the camera.

Our base will be Jnane Tamsna, which itself has enough arches and alcoves, "edible" gardens, terraces, interesting architecture and interiors to keep you busy for days. Located outside Marrakech in the Palmeraie, this inviting hotel oasis is the creation of our hosts Meryanne Loum-Martin, an interior designer, lawyer and arts connoisseur, and Gary Martin, an ethnobotanist, founder and director of the Global Diversity Foundation. Long time residents of Marrakech, they have extensive knowledge of the area and have contributed in many ways to its cultural vibrance. Jnane provides the ultimate in style and comfort without pretension.

Our flexible schedule will allow for outings in and around the city that present particular photographic challenges: dawn and dusk, when the light is best; night time, whether under the stars, or under the festive lights of the Place Djemaa el-Fna; dark interiors of artisans' workshops; a day trip to an agricultural cooperative and fishing village (arrangements pending). And there will be time to relax by one of the pools, have a massage, and of course edit your pictures for daily reviews.

Price of $2,500 includes:

Welcome dinner with wine

5-day workshop (personal instruction and daily reviews)

6 nights at luxurious Jnane Tamsna

All breakfasts/ soft drinks/ bottled water

Laundry and pressing

Large room, double occupancy, with ensuite bathroom *

Swimming pools, tennis courts

Minibus and driver

Airport pickup and drop-off

Free wifi

* Single occupancy at supplemental rate of $500.

The restaurant at Jnane is known as one of the best in Marrakech, so you may want to take advantage of a cooking class or two after the Workshop ends and add some traditional Moroccan dishes to your repertoire. Each class is 50 EUR, including lunch.

Non-photographer spouses and companions are welcome at the reduced rate of $1800 and will be included in any day trips and all the evening festivities.

The workshop is limited to 6 participants to ensure maximum personal attention. Because of high interest, a deposit of $900 is required at this time to hold your place. The remainder is due by August 1.

Depending on demand, a second workshop may be added, from Sunday, Oct 2 - Saturday, October 8, 2011. Your name will be added to a waiting list if you have interest in attending.

We are looking forward to your participation in what promises to be an inspiring and memorable week!
